In Diciembre 2025, my work Volcanic, First Gases was awarded for the World Photo Annual by reFocus Awards, one of the most influential international photography competitions of the year. This Honorable Mention signifies having passed a rigorous selection process led by a jury of 34 specialists in contemporary photography, an unusually large panel that reinforces the weight of the distinction. This edition brought together thousands of submissions from emerging and established artists worldwide, making this award all the more meaningful.

The awarded photograph, Volcanic, First Gases — The Earth’s Breath, captures the moment when the volcano does not yet reveal lava, but breath. It is the planet’s first exhalation: gases filled with light, smoke, and incandescent particles announcing what is to come. This instant—delicate and violent at the same time—is a birth disguised as an explosion, the awakening of a force that has long remained hidden beneath the rock. The gases veil and unveil in the same gesture, marking the threshold of the series: the moment when the invisible interior becomes visible, when the earth declares its intention to both create and destroy.

La fotografía premiada, Volcanic, First Gases — El Aliento de la Tierra, captura el instante en que el volcán aún no muestra lava, sino respiración.
